A Little Bit About Us!

Welcome to the Sheep Shop website. It is good to be able to tell you a little bit about our business.

The Sheep Shop is a family operated business with a history dating back to 1914 when Lizzie Davies, my grandmother, opened a small shop in the village of Treffgarne just to the north of Haverfordwest. Lizzie was a well-known local character and her shop soon became a meeting place for the local community.

The shop was developed by her son, my father, Heribert and my mother, Jean, and it became one of the best known businesses in Pembrokeshire under the name 'Wilsons of Treffgarne'. They sold everything from carpets to sofas and fridges to toys as well as operating the village shop and post office. In 1971 my parents purchased Nant-y-Coy Mill in Treffgarne Gorge largely to run as a hobby business; they retired from the furniture business in 1975.

In 1988 my wife Linda and I returned to Pembrokeshire and took over the running of Nant-y-Coy, developing it into a craft centre and tearooms as well as restoring the cottage there to live in.

We  subsequently acquired another business, The Sheep Shop in Haverfordwest, which was then situated in Riverside Arcade. When we had the opportunity to purchase the current building in Bridge Street we converted the Riverside Arcade premises into a Gallery, 'Wilsons'.

Linda and I moved from Nant-y-Coy to a cottage in another village close to Haverfordwest, subsequently selling the Mill in the early noughties. After a major renovation of the Bridge Street premises we also moved the Gallery upstairs there allowing the Riverside Arcade premises to be let out to tenants. I was by then training for ordination and now  serve as a supernumerary minister in the South West Wales Methodist Circuit.

Linda and I are still very involved in the business, although it is very likely that your first contact will be with one of our friendly staff.

We do value the family history and 'feel' of the business and hope that you will too.

We are passionate about Scouting! Linda and I serve as Area Commissioner and Chaplain for The Pembrokeshire Scout Area respectively. We are pleased to operate as the Scout Shop and badge supplier for the Area.

Please do not hesitate to use the contact form to get in touch with Linda and me, or try to call us on 01437-766844, we would love to hear from you and look forward to welcoming you to the Shop.
